40 Day Journey - Day 1
March 12
Fast Selfish Gain
Habakkuk 2:13-14
Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing? For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you labor it seems little to nothing was accomplished? If we look into these verses in Habakkuk we might find a solution to better our success with our labor. The people's labor is only fuel for the fire, in other words all of our work for selfish gain will be burnt up like a log placed on a fire. Those things we do for self only bring temporary satisfaction. As a matter of fact, they usually only drive us to do more; as if the only joy we can have is heaping more and more of the world upon ourselves, only to watch it burn away.
The truth of lasting joy is not found in our labor for ourselves, but in what we do for God. The day will come when God's glory will cover the earth as the water covers the sea. This flood of glory will come through the knowledge of the Lord. When the focus of our labor is to know God in a greater way in order to be pleasing to Him, we are opening the door for a flood of His glory to cover our lives.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Fast from any feelings for selfish gain today, and labor more for the glory of God.
