Fast Spiritual Illusion
Matthew 6:1
"Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven."
In Christ time there were those who desired to be recognized for their good deeds. They would go to extremes in front of others as they helped the poor or showed the world that they were fasting. The problem was their heart was not in the right place. It would seem that those who made a habit out of showing, or announcing, their great righteous deeds were doing it for self promotion and not out of love for God and others.
As believers we need to take note of such actions and strive to live every day, whether anyone is noticing or not, for the glory of God. If we live for the glory of God we should not have to worry about self recognition because God's favor will be witnessed in our lives. So don't feel like you have to prove your righteousness with actions that bring on the attention of others- just live it!
Fast spiritual illusion by being genuine to who you are in Christ and concern yourself with only pleasing the Lord.
