40 Day Journey - Day 33
April 13
Fast Self-absorption
Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth.
In our culture of get it now meekness is not an option. We seem to be convinced that if we do not get what we want then we have to try harder along with different ways to obtain it. Yet these words spoken, and described as part of the Beatitudes, point us to a different direction. Jesus was trying to curb our fleshly emotion to power our way to success with a virtue that is divine - meekness.
The Bible considers Moses a meek man, (Numbers 12:2-4), yet no one alive would consider him weak. Moses stood face to face with Pharaoh demanding the Jews to be let go. Moses led a nation to freedom. His meekness is seen in the way he chose to live. He lived in obedience to God. While he was displeased with the actions of those around him at times he stayed true to his calling.
Moses never sought self gratification and he continued to lead even though he was discouraged at times. We find this illustration of meekness a great help in our pursuit for excellence - do not make this earthly journey about you, but make it about God and others. The meek will inherit the earth - this earth cannot be possessed by anyone, seeing as how it belongs to the God who created it! But the earth is an inheritance meant for the meek.
So suppress those selfish ambitions and live to glorify your Heavenly Father. Reach a hand out to others first before you reach your hand out to take hold of something for yourself. We have a great inheritance waiting.
Luke 9:23,24
23Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.24For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
Self-Absorption: excessive interest in oneself
Today fast Self-absorption by NOT striving to have everything your way but by seeking after God’s ways.

Lord be glorified in my life this day as I take up my cross and follow you!
Lord I surrender all to you this day! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna!
Less of me, more of Jesus.
