21 Days of Gratitude - Day 7
Thankful For The Insufficient
“The followers also had a few small fish. After Jesus gave thanks for the fish, he told his followers to give them to the people also.” Mark 8:7 NCV
Mark records this story of Jesus feeding 4000 after they had followed him for three days and had nothing left to eat. To be a kind host he did not want to send them home without feeding them because many lived a great distance away.
This powerful miracle of turning seven loafs of bread and a few small fish into a meal large enough to feed 4000 with 7 full baskets remaining is an amazing story on its own, but what truly enhances this miracle is the prayer, “Jesus gave thanks.” Mark records Jesus giving thanks for the bread then the few SMALL fish?! What?!
Many assume this prayer must have including a petition for multiplication, but truly if it was, Mark would’ve have written “After Jesus prayed and gave thanks.” Instead Mark gave us the short specifics, “Jesus gave thanks” he mentions “after” to describe the miracle that followed.
Ever view what you have on hand as being insufficient for what needs done? Not enough income, food, strength, help, people, friends, etc.?
What would happen if we just quit worrying over the insufficient resources on hand and gave God thanks for that which we have?
My Response: stop the worry over that which is inadequate, inferior, and insufficient, and give the Lord thanks for what you have, and who knows, maybe your insufficiency will turn into a blessing that that is more than enough!
