21 Days of Gratitude - Day 11

Thankful for Communion

“Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?”
1 Corinthians 10:16 NIV

We take time out and thank the Lord for many of the blessings we have received over time but have you ever taken the time to give thanks for the opportunity to participate in communion (the Lord’s Supper)?

As a believer we participate in the blood and body of Christ with the cup and bread as those who had no hope, no forgiveness and no eternal life.   Now through the grace of God, by the sacrifice of His Son, we have been purchased from death and Satan’s grasp and brought into the eternal kingdom of our Lord.

This translation of the scripture refers to the cup as “the cup of thanksgiving” for when we participate with it we are showing our thanks for that which has been accomplished for us through the shedding of Christ blood.  For without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness of our sins.

My response: to be thankful when I participate in communion for if it wasn’t for Christ dying for me there would be no cup of thanksgiving or the breaking of bread or forgiveness of my sins, no hope, and no eternal life.
