40 Day Journey - Day 9

February 29
Fast From Fear

Mark 5:35,36
While he was still speaking to her messengers arrived from Jairus's home with the message, "your daughter is dead. There's no use troubling the Teacher now." But Jesus ignored their comments and said to Jairus, "Don't be afraid, just trust me,"

In this wonderfully powerful story filled with two great miracles we can find a truth that can bring a security to our life that can withstand all the threats that the spirit of fear throws our way.
In these events we find a father with a hurting heart that comes to Jesus as the only resource for the healing of his daughter who is about to die. Jesus went willingly with this leader of the local synagogue followed by a great crowd. Through the crowd a woman, who had been hemorrhaging for the past twelve years, manages to press through to touch the hem of his garment and immediately receives her healing. This healing causes Jesus to stop in order to find out who touched him.
During this delay word reached Jairus of his daughter's passing. It was at this point, much like our own lives, that fear takes over with the thoughts, "it is too late now;" "why does everyone seem to get their healing but me;" "if it wasn't for this woman my daughter would have been healed;" no doubt Jarius had a lot of fear springing up alongside his broken heart. But our Lord pushes all fear and concern away simply by saying, "Don't be afraid just trust in me."
Without even knowing the rest of this story these words should be enough to bring encouragement to any situation "Trust in me." Those thoughts that are creating emotional nightmares in our soul should be cast down with the rebuke, "don't be afraid."
The added beauty of this story is that we are allowed the opportunity to know the rest of what happened as found in vv41,42, Holding her hand he said to her, "Get up, little girl!" And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! Her parents were absolutely overwhelmed.
So whether your victory is instantaneous or delayed, don't be afraid, but keep trusting in the Lord, because He is never too late!!!

Luke 8:24-26
24The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25“Where is your faith?”he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him. 26They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee.

Fast fear today– when a fearful thought comes to mind turn your focus upon Jesus and refuse to be afraid knowing all will be well.

May we trust God through all the challenges of life. I choose faith over fear!

Always have found this story interesting. Unsure if there is a connection, but the woman that was hemorrhaging started 12 years earlier the same year which the girl was born that Jesus raised to life.
