Deuteronomy 6:4,5
4Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, The Lord is one. 5Love The Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

In these passages we find a simple truth to enjoying a wonderful life: put God first! It is good to note that we do not have to please a thousand different gods in order to have a good life. As a matter of fact we only need to keep our focus on one. If we make Him the main focus of our desires (our heart) then we will not get sidetracked by those things that will weaken our faith or fill us with regret.
When we love Him with our life (our soul) our daily routine revolves around that love. Note what your life revolves around - in other words what is your primary focus during much of your day - family, work, a relationship, studies, a spouse, money, etc. these can all control what we do if we make them our daily focus - now try to make God your daily focus and you will be on your way to loving Him with your soul. Become a soul mate with The Lord.
The last part of verse 5 tells us to love Him with our strength, this is the best part of all, this means that all of our actions should bring glory to The Lord whom we love. Much like a child that colors a birthday card for a parent - the colors may be few and mixed together, the lines may be ignored, but the card is placed out for all to see because the parent knows it was done out of love.
This is the same as our Father's love for us, our actions may not always accomplish the finished results we would like, but when they are done for the glory of The Lord, the Heavenly Father is pleased, because what we have done is out of our love for Him.

Luke 18:18-23
18A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”19 “Why do you call me good?”Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.20You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’”21“All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.22When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”23When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.
